I love kitchen appliances, all of them…both large and small. Topping my kitchen wish list for years now, was a Kitchen Aid stand mixer and a Vitamix. I crossed the beloved stand mixer off my list a few years ago when my boyfriend gave me one of my dream machines for Christmas. He and I have talked about getting a Vitamix for years, and just this past weekend we drove to Costco, and I beelined for the Vitamix display.
We ended up walking away with the Total Nutrition Centre in red (lovely red!!) and two extra blending containers.
If you aren’t familiar with the Vitamix, its a high powered blender that can be used to make smoothies, soups, dips, grind grains, etc. It’s a fantastic tool for those embarking on raw food diets, and helps to make kitchen life a little easier.
Be advised, the Vitamix is an “investment”. Yes it is pricey, but I like the idea of buying something that will last, and keep performing for years to come.
So I opened the box, found a parking spot for our new appliance baby and started blending. Two things I’ve noticed, I’ve purchased a LOT of produce this week and none of it has gone bad. Secondly, we’ve eaten a LOT of produce this week…which is of course a very good thing. It’s been easy converting our family favourites into Vitamix friendly recipes.
What I’ve made in the Vitamix so far:
- Almond Milk
- Whole food smoothies that are really smooth
- HOT soup
Oh the hot soup setting is amazing!! My boyfriend comes home for lunch three days a week, and throwing together a healthy soup for lunch has never been easier.
