You probably already have everything you need in your cupboards right now to whip up a tasty pitcher of iced tea. All it takes is a few tea bags, water and a bit of sugar and you are on your way. Making iced tea from scratch also lets you control the amount of sugar you use, or you can skip the sugar altogether and just add lemon for a tart, thirst-quenching drink.
The addition of baking soda in my version helps to soften the natural tannins in the tea that may cause a bitter taste.
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 12 Earl Grey tea bags
- 4 cups boiling water
- 1½ cups organic cane sugar
- 12 cups cold filtered water
- Sprinkle baking soda into a large jug or pitcher. Add tea bags. Pour boiling water over. Cover and steep 15 minutes. Remove tea bags. Add sugar. Stir to dissolve sugar. Add cold water. Chill.
