Anyone who knows me knows that I have a love affair with food. I love eating, cooking, shopping for it and feeding others. For me, it’s an experience. So why would I choose to try intermittent fasting?
The simple answer… the benefits.
Benefits of intermittent fasting include:
- weight loss
- improved blood sugar levels
- decreased risk of heart disease
- increased energy
- increased levels of human growth hormone
- cellular repair
So what is it?
Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting. Intermittent fasting is nothing new. Humans have fasted for most of their history, whether it’s during the typical overnight period, during more extended periods of food scarcity, or for religious reasons.
Intermittent fasting has been garnering a fair amount of attention lately, but it actually isn’t a new concept at all.
The research shows that done correctly, may help extend life, regulate blood glucose, control blood lipids, manage body weight, gain (or maintain) lean muscle mass, and more.
Let’s be clear, it is not about deprivation, nor is it a diet. Actually, once you try it, you may find that it’s like re-training your brain when it comes to food. For me, it’s become a lifestyle.
Intermittent fasting and me.
Going without food didn’t peak my interest. Being healthier did. There are many different ways to fast. I’ve used the Isagenix system successfully since June 2016. I find that it sustains me with nutrition throughout the day, and I avoid experiencing lows and crashes.
I chose to practice intermittent fasting for the following reasons:
- It simplifies my life
- I feel healthier, more focused, and energized
- Eating became a more enjoyable experience.
- I lost weight and kept it off
- Increased lean muscle mass
